Tabernaemontana crassa “Adam’s Apple”

This is a very cool tree from tropical Africa-  it has huge deep green glossy leaves that look extra lush. But the real reason to grow Tabernaemontana crassa is the FRAGRANCE.

Giant white squiggly pinwheel flowers appear on the ends of branches and release a scent that is to die for. Like a mix of Tahitian Gardenia and Arabian Jasmine.  It will also produce small round fruits.

So:   Unusual Tropical Look- check.  Beautiful Heavily Fragrant Flowers- check.  Deep Green Leaves- check. You can’t go wrong!

Crassa likes bright light (60-85% sun) humidity and moist rich soil. Water regularly in the warm months and fertilize with a timed release like Osmocote.  Can defoliate in a severe snap, but will regrow in the spring.  Very cool and uncommon!
